and Photography Tutor
"To capture moments in time is one of the most amazing things for me. With Expedition Amazon 2017 we have a unique opportunity to share our adventure in a distant world with students, kids & parents around the globe. We will also present some unique field classes."
As a photographer and Photography tutor Johan has visited many exciting locations around the world, ever searching for adventure and the "perfect image" He has covered most fields in photography during his career, including Landscape, Nature, Corporate, Aerial, Sport, Model, Wedding, Military & War zones.

In 2002 Johan and Joe Brooks undertook a 6 month expedition to the Andes & Amazon. While on this expedition they were captured by a group of Indians & made headlines after Military Police intervened. In 2005 Johan was in a horrible accident in the Middle East & was left in a coma for 2 months before returning to South Africa - wheelchair bound. A year later Johan was back in Adventure mode, this time in Afghanistan doing Aerial Landscapes in a snow-capped world.

"I'm looking forward to share this amazing part of our planet with the world"
"As a young lad at school I found that I had willingly developed a roving eye so to speak, not in regards to a fairer sex but in birds and travel...(the other came later)."

To travel seemed to be a welcome release for Joe from a stayed, cooped up life, a release from jail so to speak. In 1961 he hitchhiked to the UK and then to the Americas. Floating down a section of the Amazon in a raft and canoe without a care in the world. He visited over 50 countries during a 4 year period. Canoed in Australia down the Murrumbidgee and Murray Rivers for 100 days.

He later took up Bird Photography and fell from two trees.
15 Meters  in Japan and 8 meters in Bredasdorp in the Western Cape - all this just to get the perfect shot.

"It seems that I am still eager to travel and find out more of this Unique Planet Earth and so.... to the Amazon once again to discover more amazing creatures."
JOE BROOKS (79)
Expert Bird Photographer/ Naturalist and Explorer
"I like to keep life interesting and do a number of things to keep me busy and out of trouble... this works most of the time. For the rest of the time I try to make up with my somewhat nicer personality."

She designs unique websites, specializes in wedding photography and  is now busy with the art of videography. She worked for a cruise shipping company in the Caribbean, USA and Canada. When she's not crawling around on the ground taking photos or sitting in a weird position in front of the computer she likes to dance, jump on trampolines and be a social butterfly. Most of all she loves singing and is a very talented singer. She is part of a number of bands but her band "Soft Landing" is at the top of that list.

She first met Johan Dempers in 2003 while doing her final art exam project when Johan just returned from a 6 month Amazon expedition. Three years later she met him again, this time in hospital after his accident in the Middle East. Six months of visiting and riding around in his wheelchair they fell deeply in love and have been together till this day.

"After nagging for years to return to the Amazon and to finish the Amazon Book, we are finally going and taking the world with us! "
"I enjoy outdoor life, travel and adventure. I work as a security contractor and before that I was in law enforcement in South Africa for 13 years. In 2015 I cycled from Windhoek to South Africa for 800 kilometers."
Modest as Hennie seems, he served with the elite South African Police Special Task Force for 11 years. He also worked as a liaison between Mozambique Marines and the captain on board the anti-piracy vessel for an international company. They were also tasked with protection of offshore Mozambican vessels.

His security work includes: Hostage release handling, sniping, parachute jumping, rock climbing, high angle rope rescue, small boat handling, survival skills, VIP protection, radio operation and self defence. He is also trained and qualified in Eastern as well as Western weapons.

Hennie was involved with close protection of several world leaders including President Bill Clinton, President Nelson Mandela, President  FW De Klerk and Prime Minister John Mayor.
"I am excited and can't wait to start this adventure of a lifetime"
